UPDATE : AV700 USERS – SYSTEM READY FOR USE

The BBO-1H{X}-Z gradient probe is in place now. Please Remember: After creating a dataset, do ‘edsp’ to re-initialize the new base frequency. Load the default shim file : stdbbo and then start the shimming process. NMR Facility Manager 6/4/2018

UPDATE ! AV700 – SYSTEM BACK IN OPERATION – NEW BASE FREQUENCY ! PLEASE READ

The Lock system is back to normal. PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING IMPORTANT CHANGE ! New System Base Frequency :  699.962448 MHz. This reconfiguration is needed to compensate for the long term loss of energy by the Supercon Magnet. How does this affect you ? If you simply open your existing data set and start copying […]

AV300 : HEADS UP – IMMINENT UDRIVE MIGRATION – NEXT TUESDAY, 22ND MAY ’18

By now most of you would have been familiar with using UW IT’s UDRIVE cloud storage for directly saving data from AV300 and accessing the same from your own platform of choice. Just to jiggle your memory, here is a link to my blog post on this topic: UDRIVE and AV301 : AFTER you collect […]

UPDATE : FILE SYSTEM RECONFIGURATION COMPLETE

With the linking of new UW directory and credentials  database to the NMR host computers, fresh home directory creations will occur upon login for each user. I will provide screen shots below as to what you can expect and these are normal behaviors. Upon First Login : The new directory and associated file creation will […]

ALERT ! SOFTWARE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE THIS WEEK – UDRIVE MIGRATION PLAN

A quick recap :  Currently, the AV301 system has been operating with the new paradigm of directly writing NMR data into UW cloud storage called ‘udrive’, for about six months now. We wanted to use this as a test bed to squash out inevitable bugs when moving to a new technology such as this. Moving […]

UPDATE ! AV700 USERS – INSTRUMENT IS OPERATIONAL WITH SOLUTIONS NMR PROBEHEAD

The current probehead is TXI-1H {13C,15} with Z-gradient. The nominal VT range is -60C to +70C without any special care or considerations.  The probehead is capable of reaching to a larger VT limits but there will be an accompanying reduction in the continuous NMR observation time to protect the magnet and shim electronics. Please contact […]

AV700 SOLIDS NMR USAGE : BRIEF CLARIFICATION

Unlike the solutions spectrometers,  solid state NMR instrument is not amenable to a walk-on mode of operation, by the very nature of this spectroscopy.   First of all, the technique requires the use of an expensive rotor (approx. cost $1000/- ) in place of the NMR tube that costs about $10/-.  The sample preparation also needs […]

ALERT ! AV700 USERS – IMMINENT CHANGE – SOLUTIONS TO SOLIDS STARTING NEXT WEEK

The 700 will switch to solid state NMR mode beginning April 16th, Monday.  It is expected that the instrument will remain in solids operation for a minimum of 2 weeks and it might extend to a month. All solutions users should take note and plan accordingly. NMR Facility Manager 4/11/2018

AV700 – J-YOUNG SAMPLE TUBE USERS – PLEASE READ !

I am picking up from my last post on the Sample Handling change in AV700. If you bring a J-Young tube, please confirm its straightness with the special Aluminum tester that is atop the NMR console from now on, we recommend you to use only the Ceramic Spinner, which balances the center of mass closer […]

IMPORTANT NOTE ! AV700 USERS – SAMPLE HANDLING, PLEASE READ

To tackle the recurrent issue of J-Young sample tubes getting stuck inside the magnet, we are coming up with an alternative that shows promise in addressing the issue. J-Young Tubes  : You must only use the ceramic spinner shown below from now on : Regular NMR Tubes : You must use the PEEK PLASTIC spinner […]
